Our Guided Fishing Program

Guiding our guests into the fish of a lifetime is why we do this. We love sharing our wild and abundant corner of the world with anglers from all over the world. Our program is dialed, and we look forward to getting you out for a safe and successful trip.

The beautiful rivers we fish are truly second to none.

We guide multiple rivers in our area. Two of the primary fisheries we guide are the Skeena and the Kitimat rivers. To anglers, these rivers are the Holy Grail when it comes to steelhead and salmon fishing.

The Skeena is the second largest river in British Columbia flowing through the community of Terrace before making her way through the stunning coastal mountains and old growth forest for about 120km on her way to meet the Pacific Ocean. People from all over the world flock here to fish her waters. The Skeena hosts some of the largest and biggest runs of wild steelhead and salmon in the world.

The Kitimat River is another famous river located about 70km south east of Terrace. This river boasts some of the best spring steelhead fishing that northern B.C. has to offer. These fish are usually chrome bright and fight like no other.

Our stunning fishing seasons are almost year round.

Our season begins in March when the steelhead start showing up chrome bright and fresh from the ocean. By the first week of June, the big springs (Chinook salmon) make their first appearance of the year.

It is not uncommon to see these fish exceed 30lbs. Runoff is usually in the months of May and June and then by July you have pink salmon and sockeye showing up, followed by summer run steelhead, coho and chum. When you're here at The Steelhead House, there are not too many times through the year when you can't wet a line.

We take the utmost pride in our guiding operation. When you are here, you are treated with a level of customer service like no other.

All of our fishing packages include your accommodation with airport pick-up and drop-off, your meals and your guiding and instruction.

What to bring with you for a successful fishing trip.

We have most fishing equipment and tackle you may need for a successful guided angling trip. That said, if you want to bring any of your own equipment, that is a-okay with us.

Here are a few recommended items that we have found to make the most successful and comfortable fishing trips:

  • Single hand fly rods should be 8wt or 9wt and 9+1/2ft or 10ft.

  • Two-hand fly rods should be 8wt or 9wt and 12+1/2ft to 13+1/2ft.

  • Dry lines and skagit lines with multi-tips.

  • 15ft (type 3, type 6, type 8) sink tips.

  • 10-12ft lengths of T8-T11 sink tips.

  • Some extra steelhead flies, but most will be provided. The best colors to look for are pink, black, and purple.

  • Maxima Ultra Green tippet material in both 15lb and 20lb spools.

  • A good rain jacket, waders, boots and lots of warm under layers. Plus heavy socks, wool hat, and a good pair of gloves.

“I met Darren on the Babine several years ago, and have become good friends ever since. Simply put... If you get a chance to fish with Darren, don't pass up the opportunity. This guy is as good as they get... anywhere! I'd say that about him even if he wasn't a good friend.”
